Modify Bed Controller

Modify Bed Controller

The client has an electrically adjustable bed which she operates via a controller with a small joystick. She was finding it very difficult to use, as the way the unit was mounted was very unstable and the multiple adjustable arms were obstructive to carers needing to access the bed. TADVIC attached a g-clamp to the metal base plate of the controller which allows it to be rigidly mounted to the bed frame. Two unnecessary adjustable arms were removed and the length of the joy stick was extended to make it easier to use. U0-079

Blanket Paddle

Blanket Paddle

The arthritis in this client's hands meant she did not have the dexterity to lift a mattress and tuck in the blankets.  A "paddle" that allowed the client the extra leverage to effectively tuck in blankets was made.  The "paddle" was bevelled on the edges and smoothed and painted with several coats of polyurethane.  The bed paddle was such a successful idea our Sunraysia branch has been busy making quite a few more for other clients with arthritis.  Ref T8-347

Leg Lifter

Leg Lifter

This client has a range of complicated medical issues which significantly restrict his mobility.  These include paraplegia, post polio syndrome and the amputation of his left leg above the knee.  He uses a ceiling hoist to get himself onto his bed, but needs to raise his right leg from his wheelchair onto the bed before the hoist can be used.  The solution was to custom-make a "slipper" which could be attached to the hoist via a D-ring.  Once the client's leg is on the bed, he simply unhooks the slipper before using the hoist again to transfer the rest of his body.  Ref T7-120

Adjustable Table

Adjustable Table

Our young client needed a solid and stable, height adjustable table to encourage him to stand more to improve his back strength and stability. A slightly scratched, but functional, two leg actuator column system was sourced, then a desktop from an unused computer table was attached. The table is now strong and stable enough to take our client's weight as he lifts himself up.  The table top provides a surface for whilst he is standing and strengthening his back muscles.  Ref T8-588

Shoulder-high Movable Table

Shoulder-high Movable Table

A tall woman with quadriplegia stands at a tilt table several times a day. She wanted to be able to read whilst using the tilt table. Commercially available tables are not high enough. A tall moveable platform table, 1.3 m in height was made. The table top can be tilted through 90 degrees and has a strong locking mechanism. A 15mm ledge on three sides minimises spillage from the table top. An adjustable and removable book stand was made to fit on the table top. Four castors were fitted to the base with lock braking on the two back wheels. Ref T0/516

Document Tray

Document Tray

A woman who uses a wheelchair, works in an office. She had purchased a special document tray and she needed some way of attaching it to the wheelchair so she could move it around, but still keep her papers conveniently at hand. A swivel base and armrest was designed to support the document tray. This was fitted to the arm of the wheelchair so that the document tray could easily be moved around and yet stays horizontal. Mobile Table

Mobile Table

Our client, who uses an electric wheelchair, needed a table on wheels that she could use as a surface for eating and food preparation, as well as for transferring items from the oven and dishwasher. A table on castors was built and a hand hold underneath makes it easier to grasp.  The castor wheels can be locked to secure the table in position. The client was also provided with a long "locking" stick that she uses to reach each castor wheel and apply the wheel locks.  Ref T8-073

Change Table

Change Table

A young girl with cerebral palsy had outgrown her change table and her mother asked TADVIC to modify the table top. The new table top clips onto the folding table frame and has detachable sides. The three different sections have been upholstered for comfort and convenience. The castors were replaced and a bracket added to the base of the unit to provide extra stability. Ref T0/639

Raised Camp Mattress

Raised Camp Mattress

A woman with two knee reconstructions wanted to continue camping trips, but found she was having difficulty on and off standard camp beds. The camp bed needed to be higher and wider than other camp beds to provide ease of movement for the client. It this instance it was more practical to construct a new bed rather than modify the existing one. The frame was constructed from aluminium rods and designed to be collapsible. The new camp bed is easy to pack up and store. Ref T0/007
