Detachable Handle

Detachable Handle

A workplace linen trolley, which is used by several people and stored in a space with a limited height allowance, needed modification to allow an employee with an existing back injury to use the trolley without aggravating her injury.  TADVIC designed a detachable handle for a linen trolley that would make it suitable for our client to use but able to be removed from the trolley when others need to use or it or when it was stored away.  Hygiene considerations meant the handle had to have as few parts as possible.  Ref T8-275

Modified Walker

Modified Walker

A woman with severe arthritis uses a forearm gutter frame with small castors and a fixed frame indoors. This frame does not fold up for carrying in the car. Her new A frame walker for outdoor use folded up, had a seat and had bigger wheels, however, it did not offer her enough support for her upper body. Forearm gutters were added to the walker and the wheel base was extended to make it more stable. The operation of the push down brakes was maintained. This modification was made so that the wheel base extensions can be removed and the walker restored to its original specifications. Ref T0/231

Brakes on Walking Frame

Brakes on Walking Frame

An elderly woman uses a special walking frame that gives her trunk support. Her therapist requested the addition of brakes as she is at risk of slipping and falling on sloping or uneven ground. A hand braking system was made and attached to the walking frame. This provided the client with the safety and security of brakes that she could use to slow down her walking whilst maintaining a stable position. Ref 98/462

Safety Strap for Walker

Safety Strap for Walker

A 6 year old girl uses a walker with forearm and back supports, but required the addition of a safety strap to stop her falling downwards if her legs give way. Her physiotherapist and her mother wanted assistance with designing a harness that would later be made up commercially. The prototype safety strap was made out of cotton fabric with a sheepskin saddle. Eyelets on the straps fit over pins screwed into the walker frame and Velcro hold them in place. The photographs are of the design prototype used to trial the design. This was successful and the school arranged for the construction of the final harness in seatbelt webbing. Ref T0/005

Motorised Standing Aid

Motorised Standing Aid

A man with muscular dystrophy's condition had changed to the point where he could no longer raise himself to a standing position unaided. He lives independently and wants to maintain that independence. Rising from the toilet seat was seen as the most important place to start. A horizontal motorised lifting bar was mounted immediately in front of the toilet seat. Ref T1/092
